Special characteristics of the region

Sardinia captivates with its diverse landscape, from the dazzling white sand beaches of the Costa Smeralda to the mysterious Nuraghe ruins dotting the interior. Campers can choose between seaside sites offering direct access to tranquil waters or mountainous locations surrounded by the scents of the maquis shrubland.

Places to visit

Journey to the heart of Sardinia to discover the Su Nuraxi di Barumini, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or wander through the enchanting streets of Alghero with its Catalan influences. The Neptune's Grotto and the National Park of the Archipelago of La Maddalena are must-visit natural wonders, offering spectacular sea and landscapes.

Activities

Sardinia is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting activities like snorkeling and diving in crystal-clear waters, hiking along the rugged trails of the Supramonte, or kayaking along the coast to discover hidden coves. The island’s windy conditions make it a popular spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing as well.

Events, festivals and traditions

Experience the island's rich cultural tapestry at traditional events such as the S'Ardia horse race in Sedilo, the vibrant Sa Sartiglia in Oristano, or the Festival della Mente in Sarzan, a must for art lovers. Seasonal festivals celebrate everything from local wines to ancient rites, offering a glimpse into Sardinian life.

Best time to travel

The ideal time for camping in Sardinia is from April to June and September to November, when the weather is warm yet not too hot, and the island’s beaches and attractions are less crowded. These months also offer the chance to partake in local festivals and enjoy the outdoors comfortably.

Regional specialities

In Sardinia you should definitely try the cheese "Pecorino sardo" and the Sardinian ham. Also the Sardinian pasta, called Malloreddus, and the fish dish Bottarga are local specialties that taste great. Try a glass of wine, for example Cannonau di Sardegna, and after the meal, to finish, have a Mirto, a liqueur made from the berries of the myrtle tree.
